Ruben Amorim is reportedly discussing a three-year deal to take over as the next Liverpool FC manager, according to Sky Germany. He is one of Europe’s most coveted coaches and has been the favourite to succeed Jurgen Klopp after first-choice target Xabi Alonso committed to another season at Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool, however, has refuted the latest reports.
Amorim is the current head coach of Sporting Lisbon and has led the team to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years. He has a release clause of just £12.8 million, dropping to £8.5 million in the 2025 summer transfer window, according to the Telegraph. This figure is much lower than the previously claimed release clause of £25.7 million for domestic clubs and £17 million for clubs abroad.
The 39-year-old Portuguese head coach recently responded with “we’ll see” when asked by local media whether May’s domestic cup final might be his last game with the club. He later admitted that his future may not lie with Sporting, stating that he cannot guarantee he’ll stay. “If we don’t win titles, I’ll leave Sporting. It was clear from the start, it was the bet I passed on to the players. We have to win titles,” said Amorim.
If appointed, Amorim would bring a fresh perspective and innovative tactics to Liverpool. However, it remains to be seen whether the deal will be finalised, and if he is indeed the right fit for the club.
